Kim Jong-nam, the half brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, is currently in Indonesia. Cable news channel YTN on Tuesday showed a photo of Kim in an Italian restaurant at the Lotte Shopping Mall in Jakarta.
YTN obtained the photo in which Kim poses with the restaurant's chef from an acquaintance of Kim's.
Kim was reportedly accompanied by a woman who appeared to be in her 30s. The Italian restaurant is owned by a Japanese businessman.
"Despite some media reports that Kim Jong-nam's safety was in question following the execution of [former North Korean eminence grise] Jang Song-taek, he is still alive and well," a source said. "He's living the same lifestyle moving around between Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and France."
Kim was apparently in Beijing recently to meet with Chinese government officials and is believed to have Japanese friends in Southeast Asia.
Kim Jong-nam has criticized the Kim Jong-un regime and disappeared from the radar after Jang's execution in December last year, raising speculation that he was being protected by China or had moved to France.
