Shin Jong-kyun, the head of Samsung Electronics' mobile communications business, was paid close to W10 billion in the first quarter of this year (US$1=W1,027).
According to Samsung's quarterly business report on Thursday, Shin's earnings in the first three months of this year amounted to W9.64 billion, of which W432 million was his salary, W144 million incentives and W9.01 billion a special bonus.
Under Shin's leadership, Samsung's mobile business achieved an operating profit of W24.96 trillion last year, accounting for 67.8 percent of the company's entire operating profit.
Samsung awarded Shin the special bonus early this year to recognize his achievement. As a result, Shin made 6.77 times more pay than his boss, vice president Kwon Oh-hyun, who was paid W1.43 billion in the first quarter.
