Hyundai and affiliate Kia accounted for 8.6 percent of the U.S. car market last month, edging out Japan's Nissan with 7.5 percent.
According to U.S. weekly Automotive News last week, the combined sales of Hyundai and Kia rose 8 percent in April, compared to the same period last year, with 119,783 cars sold to rank sixth in terms of market share.
Hyundai and Kia overtook Nissan in monthly sales for the first time since October.
