Kim Yu-na has donated W100 million to UNICEF to help survivors and families of victims after a ferry capsized off the southwest coast last week, UNICEF Korea said on Monday (US$1=W1,039).
The recently retired figure skating star serves as a promotional ambassador for the world body.
The Sewol was carrying 476 people when it sank. As of Tuesday morning, some 200 were still missing and over 90 confirmed dead.
Kim posted a message on her Twitter account saying she was praying "for a miracle to happen" as searchers continue to hunt for those on the missing list.
She also postponed an event commemorating her retirement due to be held early this week.
