Moon Dae-sung, a taekwondo gold medalist who was elected to the National Assembly in 2012, has vowed to redeem himself after an ethics committee at his alma mater found him guilty of plagiarizing his doctoral thesis.

Around the Rings, a U.S. online provider of Olympic news, on Thursday reported e-mailed comments from Moon that he intends to sue over being stripped of his PhD in sports psychology and prove that he is not guilty of plagiarism.

Following a two-year investigation, Kookmin University in February concluded that Moon's 2007 thesis was "seriously plagiarized" and revoked his doctorate. Moon filed a lawsuit against the school in Seoul's Northern District Court in March.
