Korean-American Student Goes Missing in New York

A Korean-American student at the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine has been missing since April 1 and New York City police has embarked on an investigation.

CBS on Monday reported that Lee Ji-won, a 29-year-old Columbia dental school student and part-time comedian "was last seen on Tuesday in her apartment in Washington Heights in Manhattan around 9:30 p.m."

Her last phone call was to her brother Matt Lee from the George Washington Bridge connecting Manhattan and New Jersey. "The phone number was later disconnected and the phone turned off on Wednesday," CBS reported.

Police are investigating with the possibility of abduction in mind. Rumors of a suicide note being found spread across the Internet, but these were later revealed to be untrue, according to the Daily Mail.

Lee's brother, who is a Columbia med school student, has launched an online campaign to find his sister. He is currently raising funds on GoFundMe.com to cover the cost of hiring a private detective. So far, around US$30,000 have been raised.
