The government has appointed Hwang Joon-kook as chief envoy to six-party talks aiming to denuclearize North Korea.
Hwang, currently in charge of negotiations over Korea-U.S. defense cost sharing, replaces Cho Tae-yong, who was promoted to vice foreign minister in February.
Hwang previously took part in the nuclear talks before they stalled, serving as deputy chief in 2008. He will visit Washington next week to meet with the chief representatives from Japan and the U.S.
