Italian Physicist 'Proves' Kim Yu-na Deserved Gold in Sochi

Italian physicist Tiziano Virgili has written a 32-page paper making a strong case for why figure skater Kim Yu-na deserved to win the gold medal in the ladies singles at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics in February.

He compared the scores of the top 13 skaters by the nine judges and found that Russia's Adelina Sotnikova and Yulia Lipnitskaya had the highest rate of deviation amongst the judges. According to his research, this proves that the two homegrown heroines were scored too highly, he said.

The paper concluded that Kim should have received a total score of 217.60 instead of 219.10, while Sotnikova deserved 214.56 instead of 224.59.
