China's first lady Peng Liyuan was spotted using a Nubia Z5 Mini last week to snap photos, Chinese media including the state-run Global Times reported on Monday.
She was seen using the mid-range smartphone by Chinese brand ZTE during a friendly match between German and Chinese youth soccer teams in Berlin during her state visit to Germany with President Xi Jinping. The handset costs from 1,499 to 1,888 yuan in China.
Last June, Peng was caught using an iPhone 5 during a visit to Mexico. This led to criticism from certain quarters of the Chinese public that it was unpatriotic of China's first lady to be using an American smartphone.
This time, she is being lauded for promoting a Chinese brand.
