Ryu Hyun-jin's injury to his toenail on his right foot is more serious than initially thought, making his start against the San Diego Padres next week doubtful.
Ryu had to cut short his training at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on Tuesday. He returned to the locker room after making a few catches and skipped the rest of the day's session.
His main toenail tore open during the third inning of a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks in last week. The player said at the time that the injury was not serious.
Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly said he will now have to make changes to the starting rotation even though the injury may not be long-term.
The Dodgers will face the Padres in San Diego for a three-game series from March 30 to April 2. Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke and Ryu were most likely to pitch but the lineup is now in doubt.
After the trip to San Diego, the Dodgers will return to Los Angeles to play against the San Francisco Giants from April 4 to 6.
