Google Unveils New Platform for Smartwatches

Google on Wednesday unveiled a new platform for wearable smart devices adapted from its Android operating system for smartphones and tablet PCs.

Called Android Wear, it will first be featured on smartwatches and will operate primarily by voice control, given that the size of the screen makes typing by hand inconvenient.

Google is working with electronics companies like LG, Motorola, HTC and Samsung to release smartwatches powered by Android Wear later this year.
