A bomb scare on Monday over an abandoned bag found at Gangnam District Office Station on the Bundang Subway Line in Seoul on Monday was due to the forgetfulness of the bag's owner.
After checking CCTV footage from the station, Gangnam Police identified a 65-year-old man surnamed Yoo as the owner of the bag.
The commotion began around 2 p.m. Monday when a passenger reported finding of a suspicious bag on the platform. The stationmaster reported to police, but a massive bomb disposal operation found only a dozen clothes and wire hangers in the bag.
Police tracked Yoo to Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi Province and questioned him at his home.
Yoo told them that his uncle in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province had died and his aunt gave him some of his clothes as keepsakes. He said it slipped his mind that he was carrying the bag.
Police decided not to press charges because it was a "simple mistake," a police officer said.
