The Education Ministry on Monday said it will build a dormitory exclusively for Korean students in Paris with the cooperation of the French government.
The dorm will be built in a part of Paris that is already home to residential units for students from 25 countries. But this is the first for students of a particular nation to be built there since 1969.
An Education Ministry official said the decision stems from proposals made by the French government in bilateral summits in 2011 and last year. France will provide the 2,600 sq.m plot for free.
Ground-breaking could begin as soon as 2015 to mark the year of Korea-France exchanges. The dorm will house 250 students and include auditorium and seminar facilities. Construction is estimated to cost W35 billion (US$1=W1,068), with completion scheduled for late 2017.
