Japanese Envoys to Score Points for Whitewashing

      March 13, 2014 11:48

The Japanese government is mulling a plan to reward ambassadors for efforts to whitewash the country's World War II atrocities and assert its flimsy territorial claims.

The move is part of the Abe administration's lurch to the nationalist right.

Ichita Yamamoto, the minister of State for Ocean Policy and Territorial Integrity, told government officials in a meeting that such measures are "necessary" to evaluate the performance of Japan's diplomats in supporting the government's moves to assert territorial claims.
