Google has partnered up with LG for the production of a new smartwatch and other wearable devices. The U.S. tech giant is likely to release its flagship smartphone, the Nexus 6, this fall, and the device is reportedly based on LG's upcoming G3 smartphone.
Google and LG had collaborated in 2012 on the Nexus 4, and it was an instant hit with Android fans. Google is also moving to expand the Android operating system on its smartphones to its wearable devices.
Google's senior vice president Sundar Pichai said that in two weeks the company will release the software programs for its wearable devices, including smartwatches and smartjackets, which are equipped with sensors.
The upcoming Nexus smartwatch will be Google's entry into the rapidly expanding smartwatch market. It will join Samsung's Galaxy Gear and an anticipated iWatch from Apple.
Samsung unveiled smartwatches with its independent operating system Tizen last month. It said it will release its Gear 2 and Gear Fit in nearly 150 countries.
