Burberry Sues Korean Underwear Maker for Copycatting

Burberry has filed a lawsuit against Korean underwear maker SBW for allegedly copying the British luxury brand's trademark check patterns.

Burberry on Monday said the company is seeking W100 million (US$1=W1,067) in damages from SBW for breach of trademarked designs. SBW declined to comment until the company receives an official complaint.

Burberry is fiercely litigious in protecting its narrow but instantly recognizable range against imitators. In 2009, it even sued a karaoke bar owner for using the Burberry name. Most of the suits are settled out of court.

Some industry insiders wonder whether Burberry is too quick to go to court, but the company said it simply wants to protect its copyright.
