Hyundai Motor received over 10,000 pre-orders for the new Sonata within just three days since the automaker began receiving pre-orders for the mid-sized sedan on Wednesday.
The model is a completely revamped version of its predecessor launched in 2009. It is scheduled to hit showrooms on March 24.
The 2.0-liter version offers fuel efficiency of 12.6 km per liter. A 2.4-liter model will also be released.
"Given that sales of mid-sized cars hover around 16,700 units a month, the record is quite significant," Hyundai said. "Of all the Hyundai models so far, this really stands out. We received 12,000 pre-orders for the sixth-generation Sonata back in 2009."
