Korea and China will build a memorial in Xian, Shaanxi Province commemorating Korean independence fighters who resisted Japanese colonial rule.
A diplomatic source in Beijing said the two countries agreed to build a pavilion in Xian, where the independence fighters had presence, and also erect a memorial. "It won't take too long to complete the work," the source added.
The Korean government has already sent the message to be engraved at the memorial.
President Park Geun-hye proposed the idea when she met with Shaanxi provincial party chief Zhao Zhengyong in June last year.
Japan's Asahi Shimbun claimed that the move is part of China's "siege" diplomacy against Japan.
