Tuesday marks the first anniversary since President Park Geun-hye took office and recent polls show that just over half of the public believes she is doing a good job.
In a survey conducted by research firm Gallup Korea last week, 55 percent of respondents gave high marks for Park's performance over the past 12 months. The approval rating marks a step up from right after her inauguration in February 2013.
She has the second-highest approval rating among Korean presidents going into their second year in office following the late Kim Dae-jung.
People gave high marks for her North Korea and security policies, but poor marks for her efforts towards fulfilling her campaign pledges.
