Obama to Give Medal of Honor to Overlooked Veterans

U.S. President Barack Obama will award the Medal of Honor, America's highest military award, to 24 veterans of the Korean War and other wars who were passed over due to institutional racism, the White House said Friday.

The recipients, who are mostly of Hispanic or Jewish origin, were only given the Distinguished Service Cross, the second highest award, despite valor in major combat operations in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. All but three have since died.

The awards ceremony will be held at the White House on March 18.
