National football team manager Hong Myung-bo has decided to include Park Chu-young for an upcoming tune-up match against Greece. It is the first time Hong included Park to the national team roster since he took the position in June last year.
On Wednesday, Hong released the roster of 24 members to play in a friendly against Greece in Athens on March 5.
With around five months to go until the Brazil World Cup, Park recently moved to Watford in England's second-tier Championship so as to have more chances to play, but he has been warming the bench much of the time as he did with his former team, Arsenal.
The national team has still not secured a top striker to replace Park. "I gave it a lot of thought," Hong said. "It's hard to say what his form will be like, but I saw his strong desire to contribute to the team."
Cha Du-ri, who played in the 2002 and 2010 World Cup events, is also included. It has been two years and three months since he last represented the nation in a World Cup preliminary against Lebanon in November 2011.
