Park Ji-sung Won't Return to National Team

Park Ji-sung, former captain of the Korean national football team who currently plays for PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands, will not return to the team, it was confirmed by manager Hong Myung-bo on Friday.

"I had a frank conversation with Park. I decided to respect his decision that he is unable to return to the national team as his knees are not in a good condition," said Hong, who returned to Korea on Friday after checking on players in European leagues.

Park retired from international matches at the end of the 2011 Asian Cup, but rumors of his possible return resurfaced earlier this year when Hong said he wanted to talk to Park in person to persuade him to change his mind.

"Park will not play at the Brazil World Cup," said Hong. "But he said he will help the team however he can. Nothing is set on how he will provide assistance."

The Korean national team, consisting of mostly of players from European leagues this time, will have a friendly match against Greece in Athens on March 5. The roster for the match will be released on Wednesday.
