Archbishop of Seoul Andrew Yeom Soo-jung, who has been appointed Korea's third cardinal, left for the Vatican on Sunday for a formal installation ceremony scheduled for Feb. 22.
Yeom will also attend a celebratory mass on Feb. 23 and meet Pope Francis the following day.
The pope may disclose concrete details about his trip to Korea during the meeting with Yeom.
The pope is reportedly considering taking a chartered Alitalia airplane to Korea and a Korean Air flight on his way home.
