A Korean American has been nominated as a judge at a federal appeals court in the U.S. for the first time.
President Barack Obama announced last Friday that he would nominate Todd Sunhwae Kim to serve on the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, the White House said.
After a confirmation hearing in the U.S. Senate, Kim will become the fourth Korean-American federal court judge but the first Korean-American at a federal appellate court.
In a statement, Obama said, "Todd Sunhwae Kim has proven himself to be not only a first-rate legal mind but a faithful public servant."
