North Korea is expected to replace its ambassador to the UN, Sin Son-ho, who has been in the post for five years and is tipped for promotion to vice foreign minister, sources said Tuesday.

Ri Tong-il, the deputy chief of the North's UN mission, is already working as chargé d'affaires. The replacement appears to be a regular personnel reshuffle, a South Korean source said.

It is not known who will replace Sin but diplomats are putting their money on Ja Song-nam (59), an expert on the U.S. and former ambassador to the U.K.
