Despite failing to defend his Olympic title in the 500 m on Monday, speed skater Mo Tae-bum still has a chance of pocketing a medal at the 1,000 m at the Adler Arena Skating Center in Sochi on Wednesday.

After narrowly missing out on a podium finish on Monday, he vowed to keep fighting and not dwell on the disappointment. "I will pull myself together and prepare well for the next event," he said.

Mo talked about his intention of winning the 1,000-m race several times while preparing for the Sochi Games.

"I want to win it even more than the 500 m," he said before leaving for Sochi. "I failed many times in the past, but I really want to win the 1,000-m race at least once [at the Olympics]."

However he will have to find a way past American favorite Shani Davis, who beat Mo to gold at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics by a mere 0.18 seconds. Mo settled for silver.
