Air Busan's website was paralyzed on Wednesday by the overwhelming response to the airline's special early-bird flight packages.
The packages offer discounts of up to 60 percent on its international flights departing between April and September.
The budget carrier started selling 50,000 cut-price tickets for flights to China, Japan and Southeast Asia via its webpage at 11 a.m. The tickets will be available until Tuesday. Return tickets from Busan to Fukuoka in Japan can be had for as little as W123,000 (US$1=W1,078), while those bound for Hong Kong were put on sale from W204,400 upwards.
But the promotional event proved such an immediate hit that customers soon reported experiencing difficulties accessing the airline’s webpage, causing it to be bombarded with complaints.
"The server did not go down. We limited the number of visitors so as to smoothly deal with transactions," the carrier said.
