Police and prosecutors have busted a high-end escort and drug service in New York's Koreatown.
Authorities raided the operation's base in an apartment on 34th Street in Manhattan last Thursday, and arrested 18 people including suspected pimps, prostitutes and drug dealers. Sixteen of them are Koreans.
They are charged with marketing "party packs" of prostitutes and recreational drugs to wealthy clients. They also had front businesses in cosmetics, wigs and clothing to launder the profits, which amounted to US$3 million in credit card sales alone last year.
The ring was said to be counting on huge profits during the Super Bowl, which took place in New Jersey on Sunday.
It came to the notice of authorities with a text message to regular clients that read, "new sexy & beautiful girls R in town waiting for u."
