Korea failed to advance to the final of the 2014 Asian Football Confederation U-22 Championship after losing 1-0 to Iraq at Seeb Sports Stadium in Muscat, Oman, on Thursday. Iraqi defender Mustafa Al Shabbani scored the winner in the 74th minute and Korea was unable to equalize.
Korea also lost to Iraq in the quarterfinals of the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey last July after the game went to a penalty shootout. This was Korea's chance to exact revenge for that loss as it aspired to win the inaugural championship, but it just couldn't find a way through the Iraqi defense. Korea will play the loser of the other semifinal between Jordan and Saudi Arabia for third place on Saturday.
