A prosecutor has been indicted on charges of abusing his position to pressure a cosmetic surgeon to perform free surgery on TV celebrity Amy and extort compensation from him.
The prosecutor, surnamed Jeon, was indicted Wednesday on charges of intimidation and abusing his position. Prosecutors say Jeon leaned on Amy's former cosmetic surgeon, identified as Choi, to perform W7 million (US$1=W1,068) worth of surgery on her to remedy the side effects of a botched earlier procedure, and give her W22.5 million in compensation.
Jeon bizarrely became close to Amy after he in turn indicted her for abuse of the tranquilizer Propofol. He later took out a W100 million loan to give to her.
That is not the end of the twists. A woman employed in the clinic involved in the case has now filed rape charges against Choi, who in turn is suing her for making false accusations.
The rape allegedly took place in October of last year. Prosecutors say the two give differing accounts of their relationship. The doctor claims they were lovers, but the woman is adamant that she was just an employee in charge of dealing with patients' complaints.
She accuses Choi of raping her three times since August last year after injecting her with Propofol, which became famous for killing Michael Jackson. The doctor says the sex was consensual.
In another twist, the woman is suspected of extorting W30 million from Jeon after she got hold of Choi's mobile phone as she searched for evidence to file charges against him.
There she discovered evidence of illicit financial transactions between Jeon and Choi, who had wired the compensation for Amy to the prosecutor.
She then allegedly contacted Jeon and demanded money to keep her mouth shut. The woman has declined to comment on the charges citing ongoing legal proceedings.
