On the last Wednesday of every month, people will be able to enjoy some cultural events, performances and sports matches at discounted ticket prices in addition to free admission at selected theaters. The move is part of efforts by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to encourage citizens to soak up more cultural events and leisure activities.
Major theaters such as those run by CGV, Lotte Cinema and Megabox will offer a W3,000 discount on tickets that usually cost W8,000 (US$1=W1,067) for movies shown between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Tickets for professional baseball and volleyball games will also be discounted by 50 percent for a family of three or more provided the children are under 13 years of age
Free admission also applies to major palaces in Seoul such as Changdeok, Changgyeong, Deoksu and Gyeongbok palaces, as well as royal tombs and shrines in Jongmyo. Visitors to museums, art galleries and science museums across the country will be admitted for free or at a discount.
