Striker Ji Dong-won is leaving Sunderland in the English Premier League for Augsburg. The Bundesliga club made Ji's return official on its website on Wednesday, adding that the terms of the transfer deal will not be released under the agreement of the two teams. Sunderland also announced Ji's departure on its homepage.
The Black Cats loaned Ji to Augsburg in the second half of last season, where he scored five goals in 17 games to help the club avoid relegation from the top league. He returned to England this season but fell out of favor with the team coach, playing in just seven games and not managing to score.
His latest move brings the number of Korean footballers in the Bundesliga six - Son Heung-min and Ryu Seung-woo at Leverkusen, Koo Ja-cheol at Wolfsburg, Park Ju-ho at Mainz, and Hong Jeong-ho and Ji at Augsburg.
"I wanted to change clubs this winter in order to get more playing time and put myself in contention for the World Cup in Brazil," Ji was quoted as saying in an interview with fcaugsburg.de. "I had a great time at [Augsburg] last season, so it was an easy decision to rejoin."
