Samsung Plans to Release Galaxy S5, New Smartwatch

Samsung Electronics will release its Galaxy S5 smartphone in March or April, the company's vice president Lee Young-hee said in an interview with Bloomberg at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Jan. 6.

The electronics maker also plans to launch a successor to its Galaxy Gear smartwatch soon, the vice president said. There is a chance it will showcase the new gadget at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain in late February.

As for the iris-scanning technology that has caused much buzz lately, Lee said she could not confirm whether the S5 would come equipped with that function as they are still working on it.
