Ewha Womans University Scraps Ban on Male President

The prestigious Ewha Womans University may elect its first male president this year.

University officials on Thursday said the board met on Dec. 30 and revised regulations on electing the school's president to remove the ban on men.

The 128-year-old school will elect a new president in June, when incumbent President Kim Sun-wook's tenure ends.

"There was consensus that anyone regardless of gender should be eligible as long as he or she contributed to the school's development," a university administrator said.
