Avante Still No. 1 Seller Despite Ebbing Demand

Hyundai Motor's Avante was the best-selling car in the country for the third straight year in 2013 with 93,996 units sold.

However, sales dipped 15.6 percent from 2012 due to greater competition from domestic and foreign rivals. For the first time since 2004, annual sales of the four-door sedan failed to reach the 100,000 mark.

Kia Motors' Morning was the runner-up with 93,631 cars sold, down 0.6 percent from the previous year. Sales were still considered strong as most other Kia models fell by over 10 percent.

Hyundai's Sonata was the third top-selling car with 89,400 units, followed by its Grandeur (88,000), the only large sedan on the list. Fifth place went to Hyundai's Santa Fe (78,772), with sales up 15.2 percent from 2012. This was the largest growth rate among any Hyundai model.

Kia's K5 was sixth (63,007), GM Korea's Spark seventh (60,969) and Kia's K3 eighth (51,729). The last two spots on the top-10 list were occupied by Kia's Sportage R (45,358) and Hyundai's Tucson ix (42,845).

Hyundai and Kia still dominated the domestic market despite seeing their sales slip by 4 percent and 5 percent, respectively. Nine of the 10 best-selling cars were made by the two affiliated automakers.
