Korean Athletes Get Pay Rise

Korean athletes will get better treatment this year in a series of international big sports events including the Sochi Olympics, Brazil World Cup and Incheon Asian Games.

The Ministry of Strategy and Finance on Monday said allowances for national team members will rise 25 percent to W50,000 per day (US$1=W1,066). They will also get W40,000 a day for accommodation if they train outside the Taeneung Training Center, up from the current W20,000.

The government also decided to raise the salaries of national team coaches by 20.7 percent compared to last year.
