Rail Strike to Affect Traffic During Lunar New Year

National railway operator KORAIL said Sunday it will sell advance tickets for the lunar New Year holiday that begins in late January.

Ticket sales will begin on Jan 7 and continue for the next three days, but amid a month-long strike, fewer tickets for the New Year will be available than the previous years, meaning travelers will need to act quickly.

The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs said on Sunday that it will increase the number of tickets available by operating more trains as soon as more workers return to work.

As there are no signs of the strikes abating, train operations will be further scaled back this week so that staff handling extra shifts do not suffer fatigue, which could lead to accidents, it added.
