Kim Yu-na Named Athlete of Year by U.S. Sports Academy

Figure skater Kim Yu-na and Spanish tennis ace Rafael Nadal have been named female and male athletes of the year by the U.S. Sports Academy.

The academy said on Tuesday that they "dominated the voting," which it conducted via its website from Dec. 1 to 20 in conjunction with NBC Sports. This year's ballot included 12 men and 12 women from 11 different countries.

Tennis player Serena Williams of the U.S. ranked second in the women's category, while Argentine soccer star Lionel Messi took second place among male candidates. / Dec. 26, 2013 10:33 KST
