Japanese carmakers swept nine out of 10 categories in the best new car value rankings by Consumer Reports in the U.S.
The result was a dismal failure for Korean and U.S. brands, while from Europe only BMW got one model into top place in one category.
Consumer Reports evaluated over 200 cars and published the results last week.
It based its evaluation on reliability, performance in road tests, and projected five-year cost of ownership. Toyota topped three categories, and Honda, Mazda, and Nissan came top in two.
Toyota's Prius Four was the winner in the compact /subcompact category. The Subaru Legacy 2.5i Premium was named best midsized car, and the Toyota Avalon Hybrid Limited best large car.
