Qiu Guohong, a director general in the Department of External Security Affairs at the Chinese Foreign Ministry, has been appointed the new Chinese ambassador to Korea.
A diplomatic source in Beijing on Thursday said the Chinese government has not yet requested the agrément, but Qiu's appointment is certain.
A farewell ceremony for current Ambassador Zhang Xinsen was held in Seoul on Thursday.
Born in Shanghai in 1957, Qiu graduated from Shanghai International Studies University and joined the Foreign Ministry in 1981. He has not served in Korea before.
