Debt of Public Organizations Reaches $470 Billion

The debt owned by public organizations in Korea rose to US$470 billion last year, almost $45 billion more than the national debt, and nearly double the total in 2007.

A dozen public organizations including the Korea Land and Housing Corporation and Korea Electric Power Corporation saw their combined debt expand by more than $210 billion from 2007, making up over 80 percent of the overall debt of public organizations.
