Ninety-six percent of teenagers in Korea curse and swear every day, according to a poll of 1,000 people over 15 by Hankook Research for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
In the poll released Thursday, 30.6 percent of respondents said they use slang or swearwords. Among people over 60, 51.9 percent claimed they never do, but that dwindled to a vanishing four percent among youngsters aged 15 to 19.
More than half, or 54.7 percent of the youngsters surveyed said their peer group use language had the most profound effect on their own. Some 25.3 percent blamed the Internet, 10.7 percent parents and other adults around them, and 9.3 percent films or TV.
Asked what they thought had the greatest corrupting influence on language, 56.2 percent of the entire respondents blamed the Internet, 25.4 percent TV, 16.2 percent the social media, and 2.2 percent newspapers.
