Threat of Power Shortages Resurfaces During Winter

KEPCO has warned that the nation faces the risk of power shortages this winter.

The electricity monopoly said Wednesday that it expects demand to reach around 81 million kW in mid-January, which poses a problem with four nuclear reactors offline due to malfunctions or routine maintenance.

Some 23 nuclear reactors are currently running. They supply about 30 percent of the nation's total electricity needs.
