A four-part music documentary series has become the first Korean program to collect a gong at the International Emmy Awards.
"Hello?! Orchestra," which aired on MBC last year, won the award for the Best Arts Programming at the annual awards ceremony in New York on Monday.
The documentary focuses on a group of kids from multicultural families in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, who form an orchestra with violist Richard Yong-jae O’Neill. Independent producer Cenmedia filmed it over the space of a year.
Due to its strong reception, it was subsequently remade into an 80-minute theatrical version, which is to be released on Thursday.
The International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has been hosting the International Emmy Awards since 1973 to introduce high-quality foreign programs to U.S. viewers.
