Korea sustained a morale-hitting 2-1 loss in a friendly with world No. 19 Russia at Zabeel Stadium in Dubai on Tuesday. Korea is currently ranked world No. 56.

The result of the match, which was the last game of the year for the national squad, takes its record since Hong Myung-bo took over as coach in June to three wins, three draws and four losses.

Striker Kim Shin-wook was the first player to get on the scoresheet, netting in just six minutes to fire up the Korean fans.

But the lead was short-lived as goalkeeper Jung Sung-ryong fumbled in trying to intercept a cross from Roman Shirokov, whose teammate Fyodor Smolov prodded the ball into the net just six minutes later.

The well-organized Russian team succeeded in creating more chances during the rest of the game due to some slick passing. In the 59th minute, Dmitri Tarasov scored a header off a corner kick to win the game.

Korea is now waiting to find out who it will be paired against in the group draw for next summer's World Cup in Brazil. The draw will take place in Costa do Sauipe, Brazil, on Dec. 7.
