Google is close to completing development of its own smartwatch and discussing mass production with Asian manufacturers, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.
The device is expected to feature Google's Android OS and voice-recognition feature Google Now.
The smartwatch is also tipped to be capable of linking to other smart devices to access email and other services.
Google's release fuels competition in an improbable area after Samsung and Sony unveiled their own smartwatches and Apple and LG are gearing up for theirs.
Consumers are unimpressed so far, complaining that there is little that can be done with a smartwatch and the battery life is short.
