Public Sector to Hire 17,000 Staff Next Year

The government is set to hire some 16,701 public-sector staff next year, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Hyun Oh-seok said Tuesday.

They will be employed in 295 public agencies.

The hiring target is up 8.6 percent compared to this year's 15,372. The plan is to hire 1,933 staff who only finished high school, accounting for 11.6 percent of all new public-sector staff.

The biggest employer is Seoul National University Hospital with 1,121, followed by Korean Railway Corporation with 846, KEPCO with 734 and Pusan National University Hospital with 702.
