Girls' Generation member Yu-ri will make her big-screen debut in "No Breathing," the first Korean movie to take swimming as its central theme.
It also features hot young stars such as Seo In-kook and Lee Jong-suk.
Sports-themed films have not met with much success in Korea since "Take Off" in 2008, which dealt with ski jumpers. But "No Breathing" director Jo Yong-sun said, "It's not just about swimming. It talks about friendship and family, and it's a really good film for families to watch together."
Yu-ri met with critical acclaim for her performances in several TV dramas, which has built expectations for her movie debut.
"I'm happy to be part of the cast. I hope I can continue to expand my career to include more acting roles in the future," she said.
The film will be released on Oct. 31.
