Ballerina Park Sae-eun received a prestigious accolade on Monday from the Paris Opera Ballet, of which she is a member, called the Prix du Cercle Carpeaux. The prestigious troupe gives the award to its most promising dancers.
Established in 1982, the award has been a gateway for the world's top ballet dancers such as Sylvie Guillem, who ranks as the youngest-ever étoile, the top-ranking female dancer of the Parisian troupe. It comes with prize money of 3,000 euros.
Park became the first Korean member of the world’s oldest ballet company in June last year and was promoted to the rank of coryphée -- one rung below solo dancer -- in January.
In a telephone interview with the Chosun Ilbo on Tuesday she said, "At the awards ceremony, I was praised as a dancer whose hard work is noticeable on the stage, rather than just a natural talent. I will work harder to get to top positions in Paris."
