Kumho Tire will supply original equipment tires for the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the German brand's most expensive SUV, it said on Tuesday. The tire manufacturer will supply Kumho Solus KL21 tires for the G-Class, which retails for W147.3 million (US$1=W1,065) in Korea.
"As it is an off-road vehicle, we focused on making highly durable tires that deliver a powerful driving force. We will start supplying them from this month," the company said.
The model furnished with these tires will be available in Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan and the U.S.
Kumho Tire became the first Korean tire supplier for Mercedes-Benz in 2007. After first providing them for the A-Class compact, it now also equips the Sprinter Van and compacts like the Smart.
The tire maker plans to resume construction of its Georgia plant in the U.S. in 2015 and start producing tires there in 2016. Building work ground to a halt in November 2008 due to the group's financial difficulties.
